Rider training: Sun Salutation
Practicing the Sun Salutation; is it beneficial for your horse too?
First of all, it aims to help the breath circulate in your body. It is much more than a stretch or a warming-up. Because, in the Sun Salutation, you guide the body to FOLLOW and assist the breath. Not the other way around.
We could as well think it is a nice stretch to start up the day a bit more loose and even. Yes it works on loosing the spine, connecting your back(humm… exactly what you want from your horse). It does start to work on asymmetries. It also trains your core strength and engagement (humm… coincidence again?).
But at a subtle level, beyond all these benefits, you prepare yourself to enter into a much clearer conversation with your horse. Physically more loose and even, you become as well mentally available to listen to your horse’s body, even as you first only thought about giving space to your own breath to circulate within you.
Through this basic technique (yet fundamental), though with the right guidance, you make space for yourself to BE. You clear the way to truth and honesty for yourself and for your horse. You reach a level of language he uses and understand.
